We are a new charitable organization that is just now forming. Our primary focus is on providing access to safe shelter for those who need it most. I believe that by investing in the basic necessity of a place to call home, we can help break the cycle of poverty and empower individuals to create a brighter future for themselves and their families. With your support, we can make a positive impact and help those in need.
The real problem is the sure size of the issue all across America. So, with that in mind I came up with the idea of a simple Pilot program as a test if you will to find the best way to address the problem. I fully understand that not one size will fit all, However the type of housing I am talking about may work well for a lot of areas all over the country. Each shelter unit can house 1 person or a couple (living together) and a family shelter unit can sleep up to 6 (2 adults and 4 children)
Each single shelter costs about 25K and each family shelter cost about 35K that is turnkey and includes the land they stand on. (Price may vary with land cost in other areas of the country) The pilot program of 100 shelters (50 single and 50 families) is to be on 5 acres (can be condensed to a smaller site)
Total pilot project cost 3 M ($3,000,000.00) US Dollars
Once completed the cost to house and feed each person in the shelter complex would be around $4200. per year or about $350. per month that is just $12. per day. (Includes, food, shelter, power, water, sewer, trash collection, and supervision) therefore, to build and operate first full year at capacity would be servicing up to 350 people at 3 million to build and $122,500. per month to feed and care for or a total first year of $4,470,000. and for the next and following years around $1,470,000. per year. (based on today's money) to house feed and care for up to 350 people and once built this complex will last no less than 25 years!
This gives each person their own space not a group shelter or a place that puts them on the street at 6 AM, a home and an address so a job can be found. It's a starter home if you will a place to start a new future in the world and not just back on the streets.
Each community of shelter homes has an office and a kitchen / dining area that can be used for meetings or events for the residents. A laundry area and a dog walk. Yes, we do allow each person to keep pets (to some of them they are like family)
Everyone will be responsible for not only keeping their house clean but that the pets are always under control. (In most cases one pet per household) and yes, we will provide food for the pets as well (will work with the ASPCA and/or Local Animal Control to assure all pets are vaccinated & licensed)
By comparison
Mr. Musk
As of 2024, a Space X Falcon 9 rocket launch costs around $69.75 million per launch, with the price potentially varying depending on the payload and destination; larger rockets like the Falcon Heavy can cost significantly more, upwards of $90 million per launch.
For the cost of just one launch, we could build over 2,300 shelter homes that could house up to 9,200 people or more depending on single or family occupancy and this housing would last 25 years or more! Remember this is temporary starter home housing that gets people off the street on their feet and back to work, paying rent or acquiring a house of their own.
So, if you consider that 1 person uses 1 shelter for 6 months in 25 years that shelter would get 50 people off the streets and back into society as productive citizens.
Now consider what 100 shelters could do in the same time frame. Given that on average 40% are families of 3 or more. In round numbers that's 15,000 lives changed and more than likely much more than that.
Mr. President
In 2022, the Air Force stated that the cost to operate Air Force One is $177,843 per flight hour or just over $2,964 per minute. …
We could feed and house 247 people for a day for just one minute of flight time or 509 people for a full month for just an hour.
If you were to give up just one trip to Mar-a-Largo you could use the funding to buy 24 shelter homes or feed and house 143 people for a full year (if the housing is already built)
Don't misunderstand what I am talking about, both are very important, but this shows that in this country we could indeed bring an end to homelessness if we had the will to do so. I do not wish to be disrespectful to anyone, however when everyone is wringing their hands about waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer money did it ever occur to anyone that returning people to the work force would help reduce the need to continue such large social programs? Some programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans Benefits are absolutely vital to the health of our country! Not for people who just don't feel like working but for countless Americans that are older, in poor health or who have a service connected- disability, and the programs must be protected. I'm sorry if you don't agree but that is what makes our country Civilized. The idea of cutting food support for the poor makes us no better than a third world country! Wars have been started by the rich stepping on the backs of poor people. If you think that homelessness is a problem now just cut all the programs that are supporting the poor and you will have an epidemic of homelessness on your hands!
SHOULD YOU ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN THE DEMOCRATS WILL WIN THE NEXT ELECTION BY A LANDSLIDE RETAKING ALL THE GOVERNMENT CONTROL DRIVING THE COUNTRY INTO A SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT THAT MAY WELL END OUR REPUBLIC FOREVER!
One last point you have to have the jobs that pay a reasonable wage for the people if you want them to work. As far as I know we fought a war over slavery!
Business must make a profit to stay in business. And an employee must be able to afford to live to remain a productive citizen. It's not easy Mr. President but you wanted the job so the ball is in your court!
No one could be more in favor of the idea to cutting waste, fraud and abuse of Americas tax dollars than I am. But come on what's more important, a space shot or homeless children, a plane ride or feeding people who have nothing?
However, maybe it's too much to ask the both of you to support just this pilot program Mr. Musk the needed 3 million to build it and Mr. President find some way to provide the $1,470,000. operating cost for the first year and if we prove that this is indeed an effective program help keep it supported all or in part? We will do our best to attract donations to help keep the government requests to the absolute minimum if needed at all after the first year. How about putting some of that business experience into working to solve the problem. If you can put a rocket in space and run an entire country this should be child's play. And if you're up for the challenge you may well save a lot of American children and their families.
THIS IS A PILOT PROGRAM THAT CAN BE DUPLICATED ACROSS AMERICA!
The funding that I have described above also covers all the management and labor required to run and maintain the complex. (FACT: NO ONE IS GOING TO GET RICH OFF THIS PROJECT.)
Each person will be required to get and hold a job or be assigned one to remain in the complex. Children will be required to go to school, again this is a hand up not a handout!
By working money from any outside job will be placed in a saving account (in the person's name) (full paycheck will be deposited into that locked account less $50 per week spending money) so when it's time to move up and out to more permanent housing they will have funds to do so. (We will also help find and support that move.) Note: the workers' money will always remain as their money; no fee is charged for what we provide.
Education, Job Skills Training, Counseling, Access to Drug & Alcohol Treatment as well as basic medical needs are all items we will be reaching out for assistance from our local community and other support programs. (Why?) Let's face facts at just $350. per month per person, we will be seeking all the help we can get. More could be done with more funding but that is not what our mission is. Bluntly put we provide housing, food and the opportunity to improve one's own life. It is very basic, nothing fancy and it gives a person a chance when before none existed.
I am considering starting a manufacturing site to build container homes and employ people from the street, giving them hands on job training in different skills while helping them seek full-time employment. (And if you are wondering how, I have no idea other than once again ask for the help of investors who I am sure understand that the boom in needed housing around the country may be a good industry to invest in.)
I do not have all the answers and in fact I have a lot of questions, and I am looking for others just like you to help find the answers, instead of just talking about the problem doing something about it.
I hope that if I have peeked your interest, and that you may be willing to help in someway. The truth is this will be a grass roots effort as I am not sure if the Government will help or provide anything. It's not worth it for rich people to get involved as their is no profit in it. (That is unless you consider you're immortal soul worth something) As for myself the profit is in saving my fellow Americans from the street and providing hope for the hopeless.
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Won't you join me in saving one American at a time!
God Bless
